“A private, pet-friendly traditional Japanese house where you can stay as if you live on the island.”
Located in Katsumoto-ura, a charming fishing village in northern Iki Island where rows of machiya townhouses built from the Edo period through the early 20th century still remain,
this restored Meiji 15 (1882) residence offers an authentic island experience.
The property features a sauna, cold bath, and BBQ area, all within a pet-friendly ocean-view villa.
You can enjoy fishing right in front of the harbor, or walk just 10 minutes to the Tatsunoshima sightseeing cruise,
where sightseeing boats take you to uninhabited islands with emerald seas, white beaches, dramatic cliffs, and the famous Blue Cave sculpted by the waves of the Genkai Sea.
THE RITOMARU Iki Kaze no Oyado accommodates up to 14 guests,
offering the freedom to stay with your pets — dogs, cats, or other companions — and even sleep beside them.
From the second-floor windows, enjoy ocean views of the fishing port, boats, and nearby uninhabited islands.
1st Floor: 1 Japanese-style room with 2 futons / 2nd Floor: 2 bedrooms each with 2 single beds, and 2 Japanese-style rooms each with 4 futons
In the courtyard beneath the starry sky, unwind in the sauna, cold bath, or BBQ area, and refresh both mind and body while feeling the island breeze.
In the counter kitchen, you can cook while enjoying pleasant conversations, surrounded by the warm and calming atmosphere of natural wood. The open-ceiling earthen-floor space creates a traditional yet relaxing ambiance where you can unwind and feel at home.
The courtyard BBQ terrace lets you savor fresh local ingredients — seafood, Iki beef, and seasonal vegetables from the island.
Right in front of the inn, the fishing port offers the thrill of catching large horse mackerel, squid, and more — a true angler’s paradise.
For those seeking a greater challenge, charter boats can take you out to catch sea bream, amberjack, or grouper.
A 10-minute walk brings you to the Tatsunoshima sightseeing cruise, where you can enjoy the breathtaking scenery of emerald waters, white beaches, dramatic cliffs, and the Blue Cave, sculpted by the waves of the Genkai Sea.
“Stay as if you live on the island.”
While preserving the original charm of a traditional Japanese home — tatami, sliding doors, plaster walls, and natural wood — the house has been renewed with modern comforts including a BBQ terrace, sauna, and cold bath with views of the sea and starry sky.
Enjoy a peaceful and comfortable stay surrounded by the timeless beauty of Iki Island.
With the concept of “living on a remote island,” THE RITOMARU Iki Kaze no Oyado invites you to step back in time inside a beautifully preserved traditional Japanese house built in the Meiji era (1882).
The property features a sauna, cold bath, and BBQ area within the grounds. The architecture — a serene harmony of wooden beams, pillars, and white plaster walls — exudes a refined simplicity. The carefully selected period furnishings blend naturally with the space, creating a nostalgic warmth that soothes the soul, as if you’ve slipped through time.
Located in Katsumoto-ura, a charming fishing village in northern Iki Island lined with traditional machiya houses from the Edo to prewar periods, this inn sits in a town rich with history. The Katsumoto Morning Market, once a site of barter between fishermen and farmers, still carries the spirit of local life.
To the west stands Shōmōgu Shrine, associated with Empress Jingū. The area name Katsumoto is said to have originated from Kazamoto, a name she herself gave. The “Kaze” (wind) in Kaze no Oyado was inspired by this history — and by the soothing sea and mountain breezes that pass gently through the house, bringing a natural coolness even in summer.
Stroll through the old town streets, encounter the people, culture, and traditions of Iki, and experience moments of stillness — listening to the sound of fishing boats heading out at dusk while embracing the essence of wabi-sabi in your private retreat.
Note: This accommodation is located in a quiet residential area. Please be mindful of noise (conversation, TV, etc.) after 9:00 PM to ensure a comfortable environment for our neighbors.
